The Auslander-Reiten Conjecture for Group Rings
This paper studies the vanishing of $Ext$ modules over group rings. Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and $ga$ a group. We provide a criterion under which the vanishing of self extensions of a finitely generated $Rga$-module $M$ forces it to be projective. Using this result, it is shown that $Rga$ satisfies the Auslander-Reiten conjecture, whenever $R$ has finite global dimension and $ga...
متن کاملKimmerle’s Conjecture for Integral Group Rings of Some Alternating Groups
Using the Luthar–Passi method and results of Hertweck, we study the long-standing conjecture of Zassenhaus for integral group rings of alternating groups An, n ≤ 8. As a consequence of our results, we confirm the Kimmerle’s conjecture about prime graphs for those groups.
متن کاملOn the validity of Thompson’s conjecture for alternating groups
Let G be a group. Let π(G) be the set of prime divisor of |G|. Let GK(G) denote the graph with vertex set π(G) such that two primes p and q in π(G) are joined by an edge if G has an element of order p · q. We use s(G) to denote the number of connected components of the prime graph GK(G). Let N(G) be the set of nonidentity orders of conjugacy classes of elements in G. Some authors have proved th...
متن کاملOn a conjecture of a bound for the exponent of the Schur multiplier of a finite $p$-group
Let $G$ be a $p$-group of nilpotency class $k$ with finite exponent $exp(G)$ and let $m=lfloorlog_pk floor$. We show that $exp(M^{(c)}(G))$ divides $exp(G)p^{m(k-1)}$, for all $cgeq1$, where $M^{(c)}(G)$ denotes the c-nilpotent multiplier of $G$. This implies that $exp( M(G))$ divides $exp(G)$, for all finite $p$-groups of class at most $p-1$. Moreover, we show that our result is an improvement...
متن کاملSCHUR COVERS and CARLITZ’S CONJECTURE
We use the classification of finite simple groups and covering theory in positive characteristic to solve Carlitz’s conjecture (1966). An exceptional polynomial f over a finite field Fq is a polynomial that is a permutation polynomial on infinitely many finite extensions of Fq. Carlitz’s conjecture says f must be of odd degree (if q is odd). Indeed, excluding characteristic 2 and 3, arithmetic ...
